Scientists from all over the world have confirmed that climate change is deeply transforming our world and swift action is required. Climate action has finally reached the top of the heap of priority issues and we’re now part of a generation that is going to form policy around it. It’s one of many topics that party leaders will run on in the fall election. I’ll be listening for a firm unwavering politician with a whiff of sincerity to hold corporations and government agencies accountable and to address climate change and other issues that are important to me. Election campaigns and divisive brawls will not save our country or our planet but here we are to endure the actors on Parliament Hill audition for their role to reduce it. I grew up in an ordinary middle-class blue-collar home. We had street smarts and work ethic. There were no hand-outs. We were ruled by the Law of GOYA Get Off Your A……android. Yes, the good old days when parents still ran the household. We were self-motivated because of scarcity and boredom. I quit lower paying jobs for higher paying jobs because I wanted more. The world didn’t fall at our feet. Now it seems that isn’t true anymore. I think abundance is the problem. Our social and intellectual needs can be met without ever leaving the house and if Mom’s cooking, all the better. Throw in some cannabis and video games and you have the new world order. Political correctness is suffocating free speech. I wonder if Seinfeld or The Office, two hilarious shows that poked fun at ethnicity, gender and sex would even be produced in today’s politically correct climate. Censorship is a slippery slope. There are alarm bells going off on higher education that the liberal arts progressives are shoving ideologies in student’s faces and silencing anyone who’s been raised with different values. If you’re a thinker at all you’ll probably offend some people. I want my teenagers to get an education that allows them to jump into reasonable debates not be told what to think. Student’s should be challenged not comforted. They should be confronted, not coddled. It’s how we grow. They are universities not daycares. Adversity builds character and resiliency. We should not wait for a brick to fall out of the sky and land on our head before we make a change and believe-it-or-not, bricks do fall out of the sky and land on people's heads. Life is a gift and time is precious. Here are 10 strategies that I use to experience as much Joy as humanly possible and live an inspired life. 1. Tune into the Joy channel. I hope the 76 school boards in Ontario figure out soon that it’s the schools that need the money and resources not the obscene amount of administrative office buildings full of staff that never see a kid’s face in a day. School boards have taken all the fun out of teaching. Enough of the online tools! Enough of the forms. Forget the make work projects, new rules and protocols. Make forms easier--not harder and supplies a cinch to get. Encourage fields trips and special activities and squash the 28-page document that needs to be filled out before they can go.
