Inspiring Authors to Stay Connected

Inspiring Authors to Stay Connected J.K. Rowling’s was one of us. She didn’t have any special circumstances. She was a single mom who was broke and living on social assistance. She had a vision and an inner knowing and the courage to hang on to it. 12 Publishers rejected her book. A small house called Bloomsbury Press eventually agreed to publish it. But even then J.K. Rowling was told, “You’ll never make any money on children’s books.” 400,000,000 books later, she is one of the richest women in the world and all because she had the courage, despite obstacles, rejection and financial barriers to do the only work that ever matter to her which was to write. There was no light at the end of the tunnel but she did it anyway. That is taking fear by the arm and saying, “come on we’re doing this.” The world would not know Harry Potter had she listened to the voice of her critics. She puts it eloquently in this quote. “If you’re holding out for universal popularity I’m afraid yo...

A Morning Boost

Here's a morning boost - keep it handy and read it often like I do. I choose a rich full and delicious life. I am healthy, empowered and strong, healed from all addictions and make a real effort to walk my talk. I’m experiencing incredible amounts of Joy everyday living an inspired life. I say no to things I don’t want and yes to things I do. Self love is my top priority. I don’t use self depreciating language and I don’t identify with age. I choose good thoughts that support me and recognize ones that don’t. I work on my marriage by working on myself. I don’t give parenting advice but I know what works for me. I don’t talk about God but I marinate in his holiness. Gratitude is my guiding principle and joy proceeds naturally. I spread abundant energy and avoid bad energy. I don’t look at what others are doing to measure my success. My happiness is my success. I don’t wait around for wonderful, I create it. Many blessings, Carrie

A Parents Prayer

This is a beautiful poem and a great reminder on how to be a wonderful parent and to raise happy healthy children. Blessings and love to all, Carrie A Parents’ Prayer (by Okomfo Akua Duku) Dear (God, Creator of your understanding). Remind me to teach my children to call on You in times of challenges and difficulty and to thank You afterwards. Teach me how to understand my children’s needs, to listen patiently to what they have to say, and to answer their questions with kindness and wisdom. Help me to be as courteous, compassionate and cooperative with them, as I want them to be to me. Heal me of all thoughts, habits and actions that lead me to shame and ridicule them when they make mistakes. May I never punish them out of spite or anger, or to show my power. Help me to demonstrate by all that I say and do that honesty, honor and humility will produce joy. Eliminate any meanness in me, when I am out of sorts, and help me to hold my tongue. May I be ever mindful that my c...

The Power of Choice

The Power of Choice An old Cherokee grandfather speaking to his grandson said, “Grandson inside of me there are two wolves battling. The one wolf is about love, kindness, gratitude and joy. The other wolf is about anger, hopelessness, evil and suffering. They are battling to the death. “Which one will win grandfather?” The wise chief looked at his wide eyed grandson and said, “the one that I feed”, Life teaches us many lessons and we all have our own stories to tell. Some lessons are obvious and some aren’t so obvious. Some Lessons are like nuggets of wisdom that land gently and are easy to digest. Others come to us as unexpected blows to the side of the head. The lesson that continues to show up for me every day is the power of choice. In 2013 I read an article that deeply touched my heart. It was the Ryan Ferguson story. Ryan spent 10 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. After many appeals lost, years of red tape and endless paperwork a lawyer read his cas...

Generation X versus Generation Y Employee Motivation and Productivity

Talking Points This article discusses the differences between Generation Y and Generation X as it relates to productivity and motivation around sales and marketing employees. Sylvia Ann Hewlett is an economist and the founding president of the Center for Work-Life Policy in New York. She stated that Google really stands up in the research she has done. http://hbr.org/2009/07/how-gen-y-boomers-will-reshape-your-agenda/ar/1 They do a pretty fabulous job in showing through their workplace design and through the work teams they put together how much they value flexibility, how they value an eco-friendly, healing-the-planet environment. So they very much tap into the altruism and the need for flexibility, and even a little bit of on-site odyssey in terms of how they design the daily work environment. And I think that’s been very effective in producing a highly engaged workforce. When searching for the right employees to generate revenue, the answers to know along with salary expecta...

What will Matter

This is my own rendition of the Poem by Michael Josephson called “What will matter” The son I’ve raised, my daughter’s self-esteem, the role model I’ve been to them and anyone else who may have been paying attention. Any nugget of wisdom I provide that changes the course of someone’s life. Any act of courage, strength or faith that inspired others. The love I gave, the kindness I’ve shown and the Joy I’ve shared. The attention I gave to those who didn’t think they mattered. The example I’ve set. The Parents I’ve honoured being the best I can be. The chances I’ve taken and changes I’ve embraced. Saying YES to what God created me to be. The patterns I’ve recognized and released. The principles I’ve stood for and my devotion to clarity, wholeness and freedom. The marriage I’ve worked for. Every moment I choose a life free of addiction and struggle. How closely aligned I’ve been with my values and the principles in my book. The number of times I say I love you, I’m so sorry, pl...

A Lesson from the Peace of a Quiet Mind.

You and I came into this world, a baby, with no conflict. Our surroundings taught us; You are going to fight. You are going to defend. You are going judge and be judged, criticize and be criticized, hate and be hated. Until one day when you make a powerful choice. A choice to put down the sword and decide to become what God created you to be. A messenger, a healer, a teacher of love and forgiveness. The truth of our inner soul is that we came from no conflict. Our lesson therefore is to never abandon our belief in our greatness and in the greatness of others.
